There are several online logo providers on the internet who I've found to be of very good value. The most popular one is called Logoworks. Their prices tend to be a little higher ranging from $300 to $600, but they do a thorough job for you. Another is called Logobee, out of Quebec. They charge anywhere from $250 to $550. I've worked with them on a few projects in the past and were good, but lately their customer service has been iffy. Finally, I've heard good things about Small Business Printing, who I will give a try soon. Their prices range from $290 to $650.
In all the cases, you send them a description of the company and services and they will send you several design options. There are 3 rounds of customization before you decide on one.
Whether you're just starting out or you've got a logo that should be a better reflection of what you do, I recommend using one of these services.
